A Peace Team is a group of local people trained in peaceful conflict methods who promote friendship, solidarity, social justice, and alternatives to violence in local communities, though the term is also used of cross-border intervention groups. They have developed as a response to war and conflict through model similar to that of the localized Gandhian Shanti Sena. Peace Teams are not limited to large scale conflict situations. They are also simply and efficiently built as a response system to potential violence in a community by training committed volunteers in the principles of nonviolence strategies and mediation skills.
