Term coined during the 1986 uprising of the Philipinne people, and used to describe movements which mobilize large numbers of people against a repressive regime. It is closely linked with the notion of “consent based power,” in which nonviolence, or if you prefer in this context, non-violence or “nonviolent conflict” is conceived to work through large numbers of people withdrawing their support from a repressive regime, thereby causing the regime to fall.
