Beyond merely refraining from physical violence, we at Metta maintain that nonviolence is a positive and deeply humanizing force. It is a way to offer dignity to ourselves, and to others, based in a high image of who we are as human beings, and putting the principle of love in action. As a daily practice, it is a moment by moment adventure as we work to convert our negative tendencies into positive, life and community affirming commitments to serve and support one another in our words, thoughts and deeds. This is not easy–it takes practice, courage, a willingness to endure suffering, and a keen desire for a better world. On this page, you will find regular updates (at least one per week) for inspiration and support for your personal “experiments in truth”, as Gandhi called them. Do you have recommendations for materials or stories to inspire us? Please send them our way and we will post them from time to time.
