A Salt March for 2025

Ela adds, “Here is a picture of our 2015 Salt March in which we included our army, which is a peace keeping force and not a war making force. We entrench these messages through this participation.”

For 20 years, the Phoenix Settlement and Gandhi Development Trusts in Durban, South Africa, have been hosting a short, 5k march in honor of Gandhi’s famous Salt March of 1930. They emphasize, “the aim of the March is to build social cohesion and promote peace, unity, ubuntu and nonviolence.” This year they are marching on May 25, 2025 and invite you to join them!

They are inviting massive participation not only in their local march, but participation from around the globe. Ela Gandhi shares, “It would be great if people in their own towns cities villages and counties organise this symbolic march to promote peace, nonviolence, and our common humanity. We could take a picture of the march and we can then post them on our various media and newsletters of the various marches that took place all over the world. What a powerful message that would be for humanity. Same day different places.”
