January: Week Four

Time for some creativity!

This week, we take a light and creative turn toward some resources for the New Story, including a book for children (of all ages), and a series of animations on the New Story.

  • Here is our New Story animations project. We invite you to watch at least three of them (they are only about 3 minutes long each). Then, think of how you would take an “issue” and tell it from the lens/worldview of a New Story, and write it down. We’d love to have your examples and ideas in the comment section below. Even if you don’t have a script, just choose a few key features of “a new story of X (fill in the blank).” You might want to compare contrast worldviews to bring out the new story. For example, in a New Story of Justice, we highlight restorative justice and how it emerges from a new/ancient story worldview. Have fun!

  • Our friends Anna Ikeda and Andree Young came together with the words and images for Remember This Always… (On YouTube in more languages…)It’s a short prayer, poem, passage, reflection, meditation (whatever you want to call it, it serves all of these roles!) about who we are and our interconnection with all of life. It’s beautiful because it’s meant as an experience to share with someone else, a child or a friend or a family member. Take time to read or listen to this book. Savor the images. Maybe invite someone to read it with you and read it to each other out loud. Then, if you’d like a a creative challenge, write your own short prayer/poem/meditation/reflection that could serve as a little gift to a child when they ask you about the new/ancient story. Share it below if you’d like!

  • LISTENING TIME: TAKE TIME TO LISTEN TO OUR LATEST EPISODE OF NONVIOLENCE RADIO WITH CHRIS JOHNSTONE AND MEL DUNCAN.

Please share your creative work in the comments section!
